Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG)

Shanghai, as the biggest ecnomical city of China, has two international airports. Hongqiao airport is the old one. However, Hongqiao airport is close to Shanghai downtown area. Pudong airport is newer and bigger. In recent years, Pudong airport predominantly handles international flights.

Pudong airport is about 30 kilometers from the downtown area, about an hour cab/taxi journey to the heart People's Square. The cab/taxi cost is about 200RMB.

However there are cheapr forms of public transportation available: airport shuttle bus, metro/maglev.

Airport Shuttle:
The two airports provide special shuttle buses service into the most popular parts of Shanghai (also regarded as central business area) including People's Square, Jingan Temple, Xujiahui, Zhongshan Park, Railway Station. The maximum ticket prices is 30 RMB. The buses run from early in the morning to late at night with intervals of around 15 – 30 minutes.

Metro/Maglev
You can also take metro line 2 and get alight at Longyang Road Station, and interchange Maglev to Pudong airport. The maglev speed can reach up to 500km/hour and the ride is exceptional smooth. Shanghai is proud to own the first operational maglev link in the world. However, the maglev ticket price is rather expensive though comfortable and fast. Single ticket costs 50RMB and return 80RMB for economy class seat. The guest can get 20% discount with a valid same day air ticket.

Due to the first-in-the-world status, the maglev has also become a tourist attraction in its own right. Many foreigners just buy a return ticket just for the thrill of experiencing its high speed, and getting off at the end to take photos wih maglev.
